Mourning my mother, Helene van Niekerk.
This oil painting I did shortly after my mother, Helene van Niekerk, passed away in 1997. I loved her dearly. The idea of the “burial” was still uppermost, but the other symbols addresses my mysterious and intimate memories of her.
